Being a Member of CS Marchingblek

Marchingblek is from 2 words “Marching” and “Blek”. “Marching” is some people who are playing music instruments in a line formation. “Blek” is a Javanese word for something that is made from iron. Marchingblek is a people’s art activity that, plays used things like tins and barrels as music instruments. Satya Wacana Christian University (UKSW) has a marchingblek group called, CS Marchingblek. The Rector gave the name “CS” to represent the member of CS Marchingblek, “CS” means “Calon Sarjana”.

Nathan Oscar Deniro is one of the members of CS Marchingblek. For Nathan, CS Marchingblek is a family. “CS Marchingblek is an organization or can be called family, that changes junk materials into a luxurious music”. In UKSW, CS Marchingblek has a fixed activity every year. They trained the freshmen to play music with junk materials for the yearly carnival. Sometimes, they also played for some events at campus like Dies Natalis and welcoming party. For Nathan, CS Marchingblek had a good organization and good bond among all the members. They are very friendly with the freshmen and very cohesive with other members. Nathan said that, CS Marchingblek gave him a lot of things like, new family and new experiences in playing music. “Every single activity that I have done in CS Marchingblek is very unforgettable” Nathan said.

Nathan feels so happy to join this activity. Nathan said that, from this activity he can find more than just music experiences and new friends. He can find a new family inside this organization. All the members of CS Marchingblek are so welcome with the new member, and they also had a good connection with the former members that have already graduated from UKSW. Everyone can join this activity; no matter they could play a music instrument or not, no matter they knew about music or not. The most important thing to join this organization is curiosity to learn, because music is already living and growing inside you. Everyone can be a member of this family, a member of CS Marchingblek.

Full-day school: Better or not?

Full-day school is known as a new educational system in Indonesia. Actually, this system has been applied in Indonesia since a long time ago. Islamic boarding school in Indonesia has already used this system since long time ago (Nurfatoni,2016). Nowadays, the government tries to apply this system for ordinary schools. This plan is declared by Muhadjir Effendy, the newest Minister of Education and Culture. It is designed for Elementary and Junior High School students (Wahono,2016). It does not mean that students will study a whole day long. This system requires students to spend their time more at school from 7 a.m to 5 p.m. Muhadjir said that the system will help parents to control their children. This system is also as a character building and also to develop their potentials (Fachrudin,2016). However as a new policy, this system is still being questioned before it can be applied.

The first thing is, students can loss their childhood time. The students are too young and need to have a lot of times to play with their friends and time with their parents. This system requires student’s time too much. They must spend their time more at school to study and improve their potentials. On the other hand, students at this age also need time to play with their friends, so they can develop their emotion, physical, and their cognitive abilities. It means, they cannot have enough time to play. Playing is the best way for them to know their body and their environment, and they can use their five senses at that time. Students also need to spend more time with their parents. That time makes the parents can oversee their children when they are still playing or watching something, so they can teach their child which one is good or bad for them. Having more time with parents also can make a good connection between the students with their parents.

This system also can make the students to get stressful easily. Students mostly use their time at school to study. It can easily make the students stressful, because they do not have time to refresh their mind and they only see their school environment. They spend their time just for study. They only see the same person day by day, the same environment, and the same things. They cannot use their time to explore something about this world. This pressure can make the students to get stressful easily with a lack of refreshing time.

     

The other thing is, this system impedes the students from social relationship. Elementary and Junior High School students are on young age. They need to socialize with their neighborhood. They need to make a new friend. They need to learn how to interact, how to speak and how to act in a community. It will not make them a passive person. At that age, socializing is important, so they can improve their confidence, their bravery, and make them more care about something. Socializing also can make the students more communicative and know how to solve something. Would we use this system and takes all the risk that may come to our children?

Students at that age really need more times to interact. Interaction and communication will build them into a person with a good character. They can learn how to speak, how to act, how to solve problem in the community. Spending a lot of times at school to study are worthless, because it can makes the students became selfish. This system also cannot ensure the parents that their child will smarter. Overall, this system is still unsuitable for Elementary and Junior High School students.

Weblog or (blog) is an online journal that can be updated continuously by the owner based on his/her words and ideas. Weblog are easy, just made the entries by typing directly into the browser and with the click of a button are instantly published on the internet. There are three possible ways to make weblog useful in ESL classroom learning. The first one is Tutor blog, it is kind of weblog that used by the teacher for the learners. The second one is Learner blog, this blog is run by the learners and really suitable for reading and writing classes. The last blog is the Class blog, this blog is the result from the collaborative effort of an entire class. There are many kind of weblogs software, and all of it is different. There is some weblog software that required installation and others is not required installation, and some weblog software are free and others need to pay before operate it. From that information, we know that weblog can support ESL classroom learning.

AMBARAWA

Ambarawa is a nice and homely place to stay. First of all, Ambarawa has a lot of tourism places like Pening Lake and Muncul. In the places, we can enjoy the beautiful view. Ambarawa also has a good atmosphere that will make you like living in the middle of village. Ambarawa has a cozy temperature, a lot of trees, and paddy fields. In addition, Ambarawa is also close to some bigger cities like Salatiga or Semarang. So, we can get everything that we want easily.

Actually I'm not the real Malika

   Honestly my name is Christian Diyonata Lintin Andoea. My parents name is Jonathan Machiavelly Andoea and Ludi Hari Prihatini. I'm half of Torajanese and Javanese, I usually called it as Torajava. I was born in small town called Ambarawa, and I grew in the middle of military family. My grandpa from my father was the leader of National Police School in Banyubiru, and my grandpa from my mom was a special force.I am a bad kid with a million idea to bother someone, and actually where ever I am there is will be a trouble. I had a lot of problem since I was child, but now I became more adult, but still love to make a trouble. I spent my childhood time to have a good education from Kupang 01 Ambarawa elementary school (it's the name of the school in Ambarawa not in Kupang), Pangudi Luhur Ambarawa Junior High School, Negeri 1 Ambarawa Senior High School, and now I'm in Satya Wacana Christian University. i left my dedication and made a lot of histories in every school that I joined, but there is too many bad histories, and hopefully now I can make a better one in Satya Wacana Christian University.

   I start my stories in Satya Wacana by taking English Education Program. Why I took this program? because this is the only one program that I know and like. In this program, I have passed a lot of classes since I joined to this program in 2015. Everyday I learned about English but still have some problem in reading and writing, fortunately I have a good grades on writing. Writing is hard for me because sometimes I got an error grammar and lack of creativity to make a good writing, but I will work hard on it.

  In the future, I really want to improve my skill in writing and my grammar, so I can make a good writing. I will try it to make it better by taking writing for media class. Hopefully iI got a good grade too in this class.
